Meet the carsFleet history
Former Liverpool traffic officers remembered the Mini Cooper as particularly well suited to the streets of the city and its suburbs. The 1275 Cooper S paired compact dimensions with 75 hp, disc brakes and near-100 mph performance, giving traffic crews useful acceleration and manoeuvrability without the bulk of a larger saloon. Its modest size and contemporary price may also have offered practical economies, although no surviving purchasing minute has yet been found naming cost as the deciding factor.

The equipment, livery and practical details that shaped the cars in service.
The roof-mounted POLICE light box carried a Lucas L678 blue beacon, giving the compact white cars a clear warning and identification signal in traffic.

Liverpool City Police and Bootle Borough Police combined to form Liverpool & Bootle Constabulary.
A contemporary 1969 account referred to 27 Mini-Coopers, while surviving SKD- and VKA-registered cars carry the story into the following year.
